Celebrate Father’s Day at The Red Apron

We often see Dads in the shop, still in their work attire, juggling art projects and lunchboxes and young kids hanging off their legs. We like to think that one of our meals will offer this Dad and his family a chance to take a breath after a long day, to gather at the table without the stress of cooking and re-connect with his family… or maybe just a great TV show or book.

Dad’s don’t always get the appreciation they deserve and we want to make sure that isn’t the case this Father’s Day. Whether it’s your father by birth, by choice or simply the man who has nurtured and supported you, we think it’s important he know how much he means. So, how do you thank the man in your life that has loved you unselfishly with all of himself, had your back through life’s many ups and downs and who, of course, tells the best/worst jokes you’ve ever heard? You fill up his tummy with some of our most Dad-Approved dishes and leave the cooking to us (but don’t forget to do the dishes). Today we’re sharing some of our tasty meal options as well as gifting items and ideas for taking Dad out this Father’s Day.

Honey Garlic Chicken Sausages
Mediterranean Style Quebec Lamb Burgers
Mushroom & Lentil Burgers
Enright Beef Burgers
Oktoberfest Pork Sausage

Garnish with our Corn Salsa or Tomato Jam. Serve with one of our many side salads like Picnic Potato, Beet with goat Cheese, or Kale Slaw. Round out the spread with some cheese, pickles, corn chips, spreads and dips. Give us a call in advance to be sure we’ve got what you want and we can help you put together a great BBQ spread with all the fixings.

Dad’s are generally pretty simple, unfussy people. They want to spend time with their family and enjoy some good eats (or, maybe that’s just our Dads). Here are some of our favourite low-stress activities to do with Dad this weekend.

1. Picnic

Pick up some sandwiches, cheeses and grab-and-go salads (Picnic Potato, Southwestern Black Bean, Beet Salad with Goat Cheese and Kale Slaw) and head to your favourite green space. We love watching the world go by, tossing a baseball around or flying a kite on sunny summer days. Check out some of our favourite picnic spots here.

2. Fishing

Along the same lines as a picnic, fishing is all about some quiet-time with Dad to catch up, enjoy some simple eats and maybe, if you’re lucky, head home with dinner! Here is some valuable information on license rules and areas to fish around downtown Ottawa.

3. Craft Beer Tour

Bring Dad on a tour of some of Ottawa and surrounding area’s best craft breweries with Brew Donkey Tours.

4. Aboriginal Day Parade

Treat Dad to a vibrant display of beautiful First Nations, Inuit and Metis culture with this years parade. Find all the details here.
